Maher Kreitem is a multidisciplinary artist and independent archivist whose practice explores memory, identity, displacement, and the diverse histories of the Eastern Mediterranean. Through his Instagram project @lostlevantarchives, offering a small sample of his personal collection, he preserves and reinterprets Levantine heritage through postcards, photographs, documents, and archival materials dating from the 1860s onward. His work proposes new ways of understanding the region beyond simplified national, religious, and ethnic narratives, highlighting its interconnected communities. Alongside his archival practice, Kreitem has worked with undocumented migrants, people experiencing homelessness, and First Nations communities during his exile in Montreal, Canada, engaging with lived experiences through art, storytelling, and oral history.
