Glasgow’s War and Masculine Identities in the Reserved Occupations, 1939-1945

My PhD project, explores personal testimonies and particularly oral histories to research the masculine identities of men who worked in reserved occupations in the Clydeside region during the Second World War. Specifically, my project looks at how the experiences and individual identities of these men relate to historical discourses of wartime social change, as well as to wider discourses about identity, including gender and regional identity.
