Syd Hosseini, currently based in Montreal, is a theatre practitioner who works at the intersection of theater and technology. His journey as an individualized PhD candidate at Concordia University is guided by the project “In Search of a New Sphere,” focusing on the impact of personal narrative virtual performances taking place in the public sphere. Syd’s academic foundation includes a Master’s in Drama from Soore University of Arts, Tehran, and a Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering from Zanjan University, where his theatrical journey started as an actor.
Syd is dedicated to connecting spectators with the stage through the channels of a virtual sphere. He utilizes cutting-edge technologies like AR/VR/MR to create immersive, interactive experiences. His work in site-specific virtual performances, such as “City Park,” utilized location-based technologies to anchor theatrical narratives in real-world settings. This approach not only bridges the gap between the physical and digital realms but also invites audiences to engage with performances in a more dynamic and participatory manner. Syd’s ongoing exploration of these technologies is a testament to his commitment to evolving the art of performance in the digital era.
