Somayeh Rashvand is an art historian and interdisciplinary cultural scholar. She holds a master’s degree in philosophy and aesthetics from the Art University of Tehran. She has extensive experience as a university lecturer, teaching courses on contemporary art, art theory and criticism, art and philosophy, and contemporary art of the Middle East. She also has a background in ceramics and documentary filmmaking. Her research focuses on alternative knowledge production, displacement, labour, and queer and feminist debates in diasporic contemporary art practices. Somayeh is interested in oral history methodology to explore the lived experiences of diasporic artists from the Global South in Canada and the U.S. She is pursuing her doctorate in the Inter-University PhD Program in Art History at Concordia University.
