Luana Sampaio is a documentary researcher and filmmaker. Her research/creation practice is focused on testimonial documentaries that screen the stories of the Brazilian Military Dictatorship (1964-1985) survivors. She is investigating how a memory can be filmed and how documentary makers can create a film that is not just a record of the past, but a work that reframes that past through its own cinematic narrative tools.

She is a PhD researcher in Communication Studies at the Federal University of Ceará (UFC) and holds a master’s degree in Communication Studies from the Federal University of Ceará (UFC), a Creative Arts Certification from Deakin University in Australia and a Bachelor’s degree in Cinema and Audiovisual from the Federal University of Ceará (UFC).
