Heather Igloliorte

Dr. Heather Igloliorte, (Inuk + Newfoundlander, Nunatsiavut), is the University Research Chair in Circumpolar Indigenous Arts at Concordia University in Tiohtiá:ke/ Montreal, where she leads the Inuit Futures in Arts Leadership SSHRC Partnership Grant and Co-Directs the Indigenous Futures Research Centre. Igloliorte’s research focuses on Inuit and other circumpolar Indigenous art histories, material and new media art practices, critical museology, and curatorial studies. She has also been a curator for sixteen years; she is a founding member of GLAM Collective and is one of four guest curators of INUA, the inaugural exhibition of the new Inuit art centre, Qaumajuq, which opened in Winnipeg in March 2021. Igloliorte is the President of the Board of the Inuit Art Foundation and also serves as the Co-Chair of the Indigenous Circle for the Winnipeg Art Gallery; on the Board of Directors for the Native North American Art Studies Association; and sits on the Faculty Council of the Otsego Institute for Native American Art History at the Fenimore Art Museum in Cooperstown, New York, among others. Her intertwined scholarly and curatorial work centres Indigenous oral histories and the oral tradition in order to foreground the voices of circumpolar and other Indigenous artists in the telling of our own artistic and cultural histories.
