Shauna Janssen is Associate Professor of Performance Creation, Department of Theatre at Concordia University, Tiohtià:ke/ Mooniyang/Montréal, Canada, where she also holds a University Research Chair in Performative Urbanism. She directs PULSE, an interdisciplinary research and creation lab which focuses on site responsive, critical artistic, spatial and material practices that take place in the urban realm, addressing themes of spatial justice and the politics of urban change. Her performance design practice engages with interdisciplinary, feminist, scenographic methods and oral histories to engage with questions of the right to the city. She has staged, curated and designed a number of site-responsive works in Canada, Chile, Germany, Italy, and New Zealand. Her writing on site-specific art, urban scenography, public space, performance pedagogy, and performative practices have been published in numerous essays and monographs, including with FIELD: Journal of Socially Engaged Art Criticism, the Journal of Theatre & Performance Design, and PARtake: the Journal of Performance as Research.
