Nadia Hausfather

Nadia Hausfather is a postdoctoral fellow at UQAM. She completed her PhD in Humanities at Concordia University, with Sociology as her major field and Oral History and Anthropology as her minor fields. Her dissertation was entitled « Ghosts in our corridors: Emotional experiences of participants in Québec’s general unlimited student strike campaigns (2005 – 2012). » The latter won the COHDS Award of Excellence in Oral History in March 2018, and included video interviews she conducted, texts written by student strike participants, and audio interviews conducted by Leila Ayad alongside those archived by the Dawson Oral History Project. She co-curated the Striking Memories exhibit within the context of the US Oral History Association Annual Conference in October 2018, and again in 2022 in collaboration with the CSU as part of the 10ansde2012.org project to commemorate the 10-year anniversary of the 2012 student strike at Concordia. She has presented her analyses, oral history interviews, and video documentary on her website (activistemotions.net), as well as at various conferences and educational settings, including the CLASSE Founding Congress, Dawson Cinema Politica, student union events, and CEGEP/university classes/conferences. Her current postdoctoral research project under the supervision of professor Francis Dupuis-Déri extends her doctoral work to the realm of professors/teachers, to explore the latter’s perspectives and emotional experiences of student strikes. Since 2021 she has also been a co-investigator alongside lead investigator professor Anna Sheftel of the project titled « Activist Legacies: An Oral History of the 2012 Quebec Student Strike Ten Years Later.”
