My name is Elysa Barret-Thys, and I am a student at Concordia University, where I am majoring in Journalism and minoring in History. I have always been drawn to storytelling, especially stories that help us understand both the present and the past. As a future journalist, I want to focus on telling meaningful stories about today’s world, while my studies in history help me see how past events continue to shape what we experience now.
I am joining COHDS because I want to be part of a space where history is not only studied but actively explored and shared in creative ways. I am especially interested in finding new ways of telling history and new ways of talking about news so that they feel more engaging and accessible to different audiences. I also hope this experience will help me grow in how I research, think, and tell stories that matter.
