Deep Listening to Life Stories

December 1, 2023 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

with Steven High

English

The workshop will invite you to engage deeply with a videotaped interview  of a Rwandan genocide survivor recorded as part of the Montreal Life Stories project. We will explore different ways of interpreting an interview recording and transcription including narrative analysis, life course visualization, analysis of emotion, etc.  We will send the interview link to those registered ten days before the workshop. It is essential that everyone attending listen to the interview and take some notes for reference.

Steven High is Professor of History and has published extensively in oral history. He was the principal investigator of the Montreal Life Stories project, which recorded the life stories of 500 survivors of mass violence, as well as the Living Archives of Rwandan Exiles and Survivors.
