Tesfa Peterson is a PhD Candidate in the Department of Geography and Planning at Queens University. Her research examines the intersections of gender, emotion, and the nation-state in the context of Caribbean diaspora. Viewed as embodied emotion-work, Tesfa explores the ways in which Caribbean women produce diaspora and the ways in which these practices of diasporic formation challenge current efforts by Caribbean nation-states to leverage and mobilize diasporic populations. Ultimately, her research examines what kind of work a focus on emotion can do to further our collective understanding of the progressive possibilities of diaspora.
