Organization

The mission of the Otras Voces Association is to contribute to the restoration of the social fabric through the development of democratic political subjectivities aimed at building a culture of peace. Its work focuses on memory, oral narrative, human rights, and social transformation through artistic, pedagogical, and community practices.

We work to preserve and disseminate life stories, especially those that promote social justice, collective memory, and the defense of human rights, with a differential and gender-based approach. We understand that telling and listening to stories is a profoundly transformative act, capable of dignifying people and rebuilding social ties.

Otras Voces brings together art, law, and pedagogy to generate processes of research and social intervention. At the heart of our transformative practice is history told from human experience, symbolically expressed through words, art, or pedagogical action.

We develop research processes associated with the culture of peace, in which communities collectively build knowledge and strategies to improve their living conditions. We believe that knowledge arises from dialogue between diverse voices, especially those that have historically been silenced.

As part of this vision, we have created a digital memory infrastructure: the Virtual Memory Center, a space that houses artistic and narrative exhibitions that bear witness to the lives of Colombians committed to peace.

We believe that the Otras Voces Association can be integrated into the Center for Oral and Digital History (COHDS) because both institutions share an ethical, political, and pedagogical project based on living memory, art, justice, and transformative education.

Its affiliation is not only consistent with the principles of COHDS, but would also enrich the international dialogue on the healing power of words, art, and pedagogy in rebuilding communities affected by violence.

The membership of Otras Voces in the COHDS would open up a transnational exchange of experiences on peace, reconciliation, and memory, strengthening our local work with global tools for documentation, archiving, and oral storytelling.
