Nadia Bunyan is a fashion designer, researcher, community organizer and currently the guest curator at the McCord Stewart Museum with her exhibition Aunties’ Work: The Power of Care. The exhibition explores and honours the support system that is our Aunties, the manifestations and materiality of their care work. With over 20 years of experience in the fashion industry , Nadia believes we must begin with education and relationality to see change in the industry and beyond. These core values led her to cofound Growing A.R.C. a nonprofit using the prism of material culture and its fashion systems, to discuss sustainability and inclusivity. To raise awareness about a relational approach to sustainability, Nadia considers it imperative that we share knowledge and lived experiences. To her this is one facet of changing conversations on sustainability to a cultural practice rooted in community and care.
