Jonathan Kolodziej Durand is a photographer and filmmaker from Montreal. His interest in oral history began as a small child, listening to his grandmother talk about growing up in a Polish refugee camp in East Africa, during the Second World War. His film, ‘Memory Is Our Homeland’ (2019) pieces together the stories of some of the survivors of this history, Polish deportees to Siberia who were unable to return to Poland after the war, and subsequently had their history largely erased. Since 2022, he has been volunteering and filming in Ukraine with humanitarian volunteers, with the intention of releasing a documentary about the
subject in 2026.
