Dr. Lorenzkowski received her Ph.D. from the University of Ottawa in 2002 where she was awarded the Pierre Laberge Prize for an outstanding doctoral thesis in the Humanities. Her current research focuses on the soundscapes of German North America, the cultural history of the classroom in Ontario schools (1850- 1953), and the intersections of gender, race, and space in Canadian history.

Her article “A Platform for Gender Tensions: Women Working and Riding on Canadian Urban Public Transportation in the 1940s” (co-authored with Donald F. Davis) was awarded the Hilda Neatby Prize for the best English-language article in Canadian women’s history by the Canadian Historical Association.
