Annie Thao Vy Nguyen is an MSc student in Geography and Urban Studies at Concordia University. Through the creation of an oral history documentary film, their research-creation project examines the shifting geographies of queer Asian community organizing in Montreal from the 1990s until today. The project aims to trace and foreground the underdocumented and fragmented histories of Montreal’s queer Asian community. From a broader perspective, Annie seeks to make visible the intersectional dimensions of queer racialized spatialities. They seek to interrogate monolithic understandings of urban enclaves, focusing on Chinatown and the Gay Village; this project is informed by their increasing involvement with Chinatown Youth Montreal (CTY) and JIA Foundation over time.

Annie holds a Bachelor of Architecture from Université de Montréal, with a Bachelor Thesis at the Technical University of Munich (TUM). At TUM, they then co-developed and co-taught a course on engagement and mediation in architecture exhibitions at the Chair of History of Architecture and Curatorial Practice. In 2025, Annie curated and coordinated the collective exhibition “Bodies Carrying: Traces & Stories” at the Centre for Oral History and Digital Storytelling (COHDS), where they have found themselves a home and where they have become a core member.
