We are delighted to announce that The Super Boat People have been awarded this year’s Ted Little Prize in recognition of their exceptional community-based public history work. Composed of second-generation Southeast Asian refugees from Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos, the collective reclaims family histories, reconnects with cultural roots, and advocates for more nuanced representations of refugee experiences in Quebec.
Through participatory workshops, storytelling circles, and creative collaborations with artists, they explore how histories of war, exile, and migration are transmitted, or silenced, across generations. Their exhibitions, including What Travels Through Us: Family History Workshops and More than Good Refugees: 50 Years of Cambodian, Laotian, and Vietnamese Presence in Montreal, invite the public into intimate, intergenerational dialogues about memory, identity, and belonging. The collective’s work exemplifies the transformative potential of oral history and art to foster healing, solidarity, and a deeper understanding of Montreal’s diverse communities.
