Student Affiliate
Sara Ben Amer is a third year undergraduate History Honours student at Concordia University, also completing a Minor in Modern Arabic Language and Culture. Her interests focus on contemporary Algerian and broader North African history, especially since the independences. Her ongoing thesis examines post-colonial Algerian politics, identity formation and sociolinguistics, with particular attention to the development of Amazigh and Arab identities in North Africa in the context of colonialism and state formation. She is also interested in oral history as a method for preserving memory and incorporating lived experiences in contemporary Algeria.
