COHDS invites proposals from student- and community-affiliates for oral history-based research and research-creation projects to be considered for a grant of up to $750. Proposals can explore any theme as long as they adhere to oral history ethics.
Requests for funding may support: the completion of an existing project, including thesis research, the start of a new project, or to supplement other funding. Please note that grants of $750 will only be considered in the case of: a project of exceptional value to the COHDS community, or; a project of exceptional importance to the field of oral history and/or oral history research-creation. Funding is limited and projects may be awarded less money than requested.
The recipients of the grants will be required to organize one event at COHDS or offer a workshop related to the proposed project in Fall 2023 or Winter 2024, either in-person or virtually.
Eligibility: Students and community members affiliated to COHDS are eligible to apply, individually or in a team. Those who have been affiliates before January 2023 will have priority. In a two-page (maximum) document, please include the following information:
- Title of your project
- Your full name and affiliation with COHDS (student, community, core)
- Full names of any collaborators or partners
- A description of the project, including its connection with oral history (500 words max.)
- A short budget itemizing the costs of your project (include full details of any other funding you may have for this project, such as amount and source)
- The total amount of funds requested from COHDS (from $100 up to $750)
Eligible expenses include art supplies, printing, equipment rental, space rental, specialist fees (ex. translation), conference fees, COHDS staff hours (for example, to assist the affiliate in archiving a project). Book and equipment purchases will be considered if the applicant intends to offer the books/equipment to COHDS following the completion of the project. We regret that the following are not eligible for consideration: the purchase of equipment that COHDS already owns and makes freely available to affiliates; alcohol; and travel expenses incurred before receiving the grant. The award money should be spent before April 2024.
Please email your proposal in PDF format to: cohds.chorn@concordia.ca with the subject line “2023 Oral History Grant Proposal”. Proposals can be submitted in English or in French.
Deadline: May 19, 2023 (midnight, ET). Results to be announced by June 5, 2023.
