JOB DESCRIPTION: Under the supervision of, and in close collaboration with the Coordinator & Community Facilitator, the Assistant to the Coordinator at the Centre for Oral History & Digital Storytelling (COHDS) will be responsible for:
- Answering general and technical inquiries from affiliates, researchers, students, faculty, or members of the general public by email
- Managing COHDS’s internal calendar
- Keeping mailing lists and affiliate lists up to date
- Keeping track of online event registration and attendance
- Providing assistance to the Coordinator & Community Facilitator in the work of organizing, hosting, and documenting training workshops, seminars, lectures, and other events
- Promoting COHDS events to other departments, research centres, and the general public via our mailing lists, website, and social media platforms
- Writing and sending the Centre’s monthly bilingual newsletter
- Updating website content
- Translating written content for the above platforms
- Managing and following up on equipment loans
- Providing assistance to the COHDS Co-Directors, the Lab Technician, and the Archives Coordinator when needed
- Liaising with different members of the COHDS team when needed
- The Coordinator Assistant will be asked to attend regular staff meetings, report on their work, and communicate information to other staff members.
REQUIRED SKILLS: Bilingualism, computer skills (excel, word, other), customer service, data entry
ASSETS: Attention to detail is an essential skill for this job, also being able to meet deadlines, and communicate clearly with a diverse group of users/visitors,
Other computer skills would be valuable assets: familiarity with web conferencing software (zoom), social media, Photoshop.
STUDENT GAINS: COHDS is a very multidisciplinary community of research and practice. This position allows the student to be in direct contact with a wide array of both community and academic research, in a bilingual environment. Through exposure to our workshops and seminars, the student can also gain training in oral history, participatory research, and research-creation. As a direct result of their work for COHDS, the student will regularly learn about community events and ongoing projects in the field of oral history. The Assistant to the Coordinator position may be extended into the winter term depending upon performance and funding.
