Javi Fuentes Bernal is a Colombian-Canadian PhD candidate in Social Work at Université de Montréal, a Vanier Scholar, social worker, and artist-researcher. Their work explores the experiences, knowledges, and practices of care developed by Latin American trans*travesti migrants in Canada. Drawing on oral history, decolonial ethnography, and research-creation, Javi is particularly interested in narratives of migration, diasporic memory, gender affirmation, and forms of knowledge that emerge beyond dominant institutional frameworks. Their work seeks to create ethical spaces in which marginalized stories are recognized as forms of thought, transmission, and social transformation.
