My name is Jamie Page, and I am a first-year graduate student at Concordia University enrolled in the Art History master’s program. My thesis focuses on the overlooked labour of women in the Canadian military during the 1980s. To conduct my research, I will be interviewing 3–5 veteran women to learn more about their experiences, challenges, and accomplishments.
I use a feminist oral history approach, which means I aim to create a vulnerable and emotional setting with my interviewees, where meaningful relationships can develop. In my project, I am also looking to juxtapose material culture and oral history in a way that creates dialogue. The material I am currently exploring is quilting, as one of the veterans I will be interviewing has transformed all of her Air Force uniforms into a quilt.
