I graduated from Concordia in 1973 with a BA in History and English. I went on to work as a journalist, publish fiction and poetry, and teach Creative Writing at Concordia and Thompson Rivers University. I also have a long history of social activism that began with the Sir George Williams Computer Centre Crisis when, at 17, I became News Editor of the Georgian student newspaper. A year later I joined Montreal Women’s Liberation, and was swept up in the events and struggles that grew out of the October Crisis and movements like the Milton-Parc Citizens Movement. In the 1980s I knew and travelled with Leonard Cohen, and was involved in threatre productions, notably a play directed by Robert Lepage. My recent publications include My Cold War, A Certain Girl, and Leonard Cohen: Man Next Door.
