Job Opportunity for Concordia Students: Oral History Project Assistant / Mapping the World of Montreal

The Centre for Oral History and Digital Storytelling is looking for an Oral History Project Assistant to work on a project to develop an interactive map of life history interviews through a web-based tool called Atlascine developed by the Geomedia Lab. The project assistant will work with the Coordinator and Community Facilitator to process an oral history interview collection relating to street musicians and performers for an online public history project.

Main duties will include:

• Preparing interview transcripts for online upload onto Vimeo platform
• Transcribing and generating time-stamps for interviews
• Work on the Atlascine platform to generate tags for video/audio interviews
• Scan, catalogue and file images and documents
• During the internship, the student will be expected to contribute towards the general life of the centre and participate in the staff meetings as needed.

Requirements

• Basic computer skills
• Some knowledge of oral history and public history fields
• Ability to learn/use online tools
• Excellent command of written and spoken English, and good understanding of French.

Other Skills:

• Attention to detail, active listening, some analytical ability, and problem-solving
• Familiarity with transcription software and online platforms such as YouTube and Vimeo
• Knowledge of audio and video editing software

This position is best suited for students with an interest in oral history, storytelling, and/or public history. The candidate should be comfortable working autonomously while coordinating their efforts with COHDS staff.
