Olivia Savard completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Painting and Drawing at Concordia University this year. During her degree she took on a self-directed project in the south-west district of Montreal, particularly St. Henri, Little Burgundy, and Pointe Saint-Charles. Initially, her idea was to organize a community effort to create a mural representing the inhabitants’ struggles against gentrification. Through this project she learned the importance of collaboration and of integrating herself into a space whose embedded history is not attached to her own. She continues to create a contact between herself and communities that bear significant stories of socioeconomic struggle to find solutions to current social problems. Her interest in graphic and narrative arts, together with her personal convictions, form the foundation of her work.
