{"id":7704,"date":"2021-01-21T19:55:50","date_gmt":"2021-01-21T19:55:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/storytelling.concordia.ca\/?post_type=tribe_events&#038;p=7704"},"modified":"2021-03-18T18:58:30","modified_gmt":"2021-03-18T18:58:30","slug":"weaving-stories-threads-an-indigenous-cartographic-engagement","status":"publish","type":"tribe_events","link":"https:\/\/storytelling.concordia.ca\/fr\/event\/weaving-stories-threads-an-indigenous-cartographic-engagement\/","title":{"rendered":"Weaving stories threads: An Indigenous Cartographic Engagement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In this conversation Renee Pualani Louis and Annita Lucchesi will weave stories about mapping and service to community, spirituality, bodies, healing, personal journeys, women, memories, tools, data sovereignty, Indigenization, decolonization, culture, legend, ancestors and much more.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Annita Lucchesi<\/strong> is a researcher, scholar, cartographer and community organizer of Cheyenne and Italian descent, currently living on Wiyot territory in Northern California. Annita serves as founding Executive Director of Sovereign Bodies Institute, a non-profit research institute dedicated to community-engaged research on gender and sexual violence against Indigenous people. Annita is also a doctoral student at the University of Arizona, in the School of Geography, Development, &amp; Environment.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Renee Pualani Louis<\/strong> is a Kanaka \u02bb\u014ciwi (Native Hawai\u02bbi) woman and a scholar of Indigenous cartographies, Indigenous geographies and Indigenous research methodologies from the University of Hawai\u02bbi at M\u0101noa. Her passion is storied Hawai\u02bbi place names. She is currently the Board President for the Non-profit Roots and Routes IC (Intercultural Collaboration) and continues to volunteer with the Hawai\u02bbi Board on Geographic Names.<\/p>\n<p>The Centre for Oral History and Digital Storytelling (COHDS) in collaboration with the Geomedia lab at Concordia University is organizing a series of conversations around maps and stories. These conversations will involve students, researchers, mapmakers, artists, and activists working at the intersection between maps and stories, and will aim to address two broad questions: What are the most pressing methodological, theoretical, technological, ethical and design challenges raised by the relationship between maps and stories? What might be the impacts of these relationships within the social, cultural and political spheres?
