{"id":25179,"date":"2026-01-19T09:45:04","date_gmt":"2026-01-19T14:45:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/storytelling.concordia.ca\/?post_type=tribe_events&#038;p=25179"},"modified":"2026-03-11T13:36:43","modified_gmt":"2026-03-11T17:36:43","slug":"the-river-that-is-not-teaching-oral-history-and-photography-through-fieldwork","status":"publish","type":"tribe_events","link":"https:\/\/storytelling.concordia.ca\/fr\/event\/the-river-that-is-not-teaching-oral-history-and-photography-through-fieldwork\/","title":{"rendered":"POSTPONED : The River That is Not: Teaching Oral History and Photography through Fieldwork"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\"><em>With Lea Kabiljo<\/em><\/p>\n<p data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">This event marks the opening of\u00a0<i>The river that is not<\/i>, an exhibition presenting a research project developed in collaboration with students from the visual arts program at the Universidad Laica Eloy Alfaro de Manab\u00ed, Ecuador, <span data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">and presented at COHDS from March 9 to April 20.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Developed as a short-term teaching intervention, the project introduced students to an oral history and photography methodology through fieldwork conducted in residential areas surrounding the contaminated waters of the R\u00edo Burro and R\u00edo Manta in Manta, Ecuador. Students worked with residents who shared personal accounts related to environmental conditions, urban infrastructure, and long-term lived experience in the area.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition brings together selected photographic works and interview excerpts from the students\u2019 fieldwork, alongside documentation reflecting their experience of engaging with oral history and photography as a research methodology in a community context.
