Scott MacLeod<\/strong> was born in Red Deer, Alberta, in 1965 and his family are of Scottish, Irish, English and Norse descent. He moved to Montreal in 1970 where he was educated in both French and English. MacLeod holds a BFA specialization in printmaking and photography and an MA in Art Education from Concordia University.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"543\" data-end=\"944\">He is a critically acclaimed artist, photographer, musician, filmmaker, scriptwriter, and graphic novelist. His artwork is in many permanent collections, including that of the Mus\u00e9e du Qu\u00e9bec, The National Gallery of Canada, and the Dr. Jane Goodall Institute. He is a performing songwriter and recording artist with four releases:<br data-start=\"874\" data-end=\"877\" \/><a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/gsmacleod.bandcamp.com\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener\" data-start=\"880\" data-end=\"944\">https:\/\/gsmacleod.bandcamp.com<\/a><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"946\" data-end=\"1149\">Scott was a co-founder and member of the international art collective <em data-start=\"1016\" data-end=\"1031\">La Raza Group<\/em> (1987\u20132005), whose focus was on art outreach through muralism:<br data-start=\"1094\" data-end=\"1097\" \/><a class=\"\" href=\"http:\/\/www.larazagroup.com\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener\" data-start=\"1100\" data-end=\"1149\">www.larazagroup.com<\/a><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1151\" data-end=\"1182\"><strong data-start=\"1151\" data-end=\"1182\">Highlights and Residencies:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1183\" data-end=\"1917\">\n<li data-start=\"1183\" data-end=\"1314\">\n<p data-start=\"1185\" data-end=\"1314\">In 1991, he represented Canada in Dublin, Ireland, for the European City of Culture festival at the Guinness Hop Store Gallery.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1315\" data-end=\"1452\">\n<p data-start=\"1317\" data-end=\"1452\">He attended the Banff Center for the Arts on the Tevie and Arliss Miller Scholarship in 1987, and the Leighton Artist Colony in 1992.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1453\" data-end=\"1606\">\n<p data-start=\"1455\" data-end=\"1606\">In 1988, he studied master prints and drawings at the Uffizi Print and Drawing Room in Florence, Italy, on the Elizabeth T. Greenshields Scholarship.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1607\" data-end=\"1758\">\n<p data-start=\"1609\" data-end=\"1758\">He was a fellow at the <a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/wurlitzerfoundation.org\/alumni\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener\" data-start=\"1632\" data-end=\"1715\">Helene Wurlitzer Foundation of New Mexico<\/a>, attending residencies in 1996 and 2001.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1759\" data-end=\"1917\">\n<p data-start=\"1761\" data-end=\"1917\">In 1999, he received the William Blair Bruce European Travel Fine Arts Scholarship from the Canadian Scandinavian Foundation to research his Norse ancestry.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1919\" data-end=\"1945\"><strong data-start=\"1919\" data-end=\"1945\">Projects and Programs:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1946\" data-end=\"2398\">\n<li data-start=\"1946\" data-end=\"2118\">\n<p data-start=\"1948\" data-end=\"2118\">In 2001, he created <a class=\"\" href=\"http:\/\/www.abriefcanadianhistory.com\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener\" data-start=\"1968\" data-end=\"2032\">A Brief Canadian History<\/a>, a program to teach Indigenous and Canadian history through music and storytelling.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2119\" data-end=\"2278\">\n<p data-start=\"2121\" data-end=\"2278\">From 2004 to 2008, he was artist-in-residence at the McAuslan Brewery, where he founded this residency program and the Centre St. Ambroise cultural centre.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2279\" data-end=\"2398\">\n<p data-start=\"2281\" data-end=\"2398\">He co-founded and coordinated La Semaine des arts NDG Arts Week and created <a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/ndgartwalk.com\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener\" data-start=\"2357\" data-end=\"2395\">NDG Art Walk<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"2400\" data-end=\"2434\"><strong data-start=\"2400\" data-end=\"2434\">Academic Work and Recognition:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"2435\" data-end=\"2972\">\n<li data-start=\"2435\" data-end=\"2972\">\n<p data-start=\"2437\" data-end=\"2972\">In 2013, he completed his MA thesis, <em data-start=\"2474\" data-end=\"2503\">Dans l\u2019Griff-In Griffintown<\/em>, and the accompanying documentary <em data-start=\"2538\" data-end=\"2569\">Dans l\u2019Griff \u2013 In Griffintown<\/em> (2013):<br data-start=\"2577\" data-end=\"2580\" \/><a class=\"\" href=\"http:\/\/spectrum.library.concordia.ca\/977057\/\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener\" data-start=\"2583\" data-end=\"2640\">MA Thesis<\/a><br data-start=\"2640\" data-end=\"2643\" \/><a class=\"\" href=\"http:\/\/ingriffintown.com\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener\" data-start=\"2646\" data-end=\"2678\">Film<\/a><br data-start=\"2678\" data-end=\"2681\" \/>This work won the 2014 Oral History Award of Excellence from Concordia University and was featured at the Centre d\u2019histoire de Montr\u00e9al (2015\u20132016):<br Concordia University.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3133\" data-end=\"3165\"><strong data-start=\"3133\" data-end=\"3165\">Recent Work and Productions:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"3166\" data-end=\"3665\">\n<li data-start=\"3166\" data-end=\"3333\">\n<p data-start=\"3168\" data-end=\"3333\">From 2017 to 2023, he received several grants to attend the SIM residency in Reykjavik, Iceland, to work on his <em data-start=\"3280\" data-end=\"3300\">Norse Woman\u2019s Saga<\/em> film and graphic novel series.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3334\" data-end=\"3509\">\n<p data-start=\"3336\" data-end=\"3509\">He has produced, directed, and animated 10 documentaries and animated films in collaboration with the <a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.macleod9.com\/films.html\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener\" data-start=\"3438\" data-end=\"3506\">National Film Board of Canada<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3510\" data-end=\"3665\">\n<p data-start=\"3512\" data-end=\"3665\">He is currently in production on <em data-start=\"3545\" data-end=\"3579\">Griffintown \u2013 A People\u2019s History<\/em>, a four-part series spanning from settlement to industrialization and gentrification.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"3667\" data-end=\"3695\"><strong data-start=\"3667\" data-end=\"3695\">Community and Education:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"3696\" data-end=\"4112\">\n<li data-start=\"3696\" data-end=\"3933\">\n<p data-start=\"3698\" data-end=\"3933\">From 2020 to 2025, he worked with LEARN Quebec on the <a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/hosted.learnquebec.ca\/belonging\/comic-zine\/\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener\" data-start=\"3752\" data-end=\"3819\">iBelong Here<\/a> project and with ELAN\u2019s <a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/artistsinspire.ca\/artist\/g-scott-macleod\/\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener\" data-start=\"3844\" data-end=\"3911\">ArtistsInspire<\/a> in-school programs.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3934\" data-end=\"4112\">\n<p data-start=\"3936\" data-end=\"4112\">He also consults, lectures, and gives workshops on his work to promote and develop better data-end=\"4112\">Lectures<\/a><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"4114\" data-end=\"4342\"><strong data-start=\"4114\" data-end=\"4139\">MacLeod 9 Productions<\/strong> currently produces illustrations, educational films, graphic novels, web tours, and exhibitions as teaching tools for schools, libraries, cultural centres, museums, Parks Canada, and the greater
