Global Studies, Bishop&rsquo;s University<br \/>\n<b><\/b><\/p>\n<p><i>Dr. Catherine Kinewesquao Richardson,<\/i>\u00a0First Peoples Studies, School of Community and Public Affairs, Concordia University<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Event Description<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Canadian Historical Association recently issued a Canada Day Statement calling the country\u2019s history of violence against indigenous people \u201cgenocide.\u201d The statement also acknowledged that the reluctance of historians to use that term contributed to Canada\u2019s refusal to \u201ccome to grips with this country\u2019s history of colonization and dispossession.\u201d Most hailed the statement as an important step toward repair yet others denounced the association\u2019s foray into what they called \u201cactivist\u201d &amp; \u201crevisionist\u201d history.<\/p>\n<p>This roundtable asks what critics mean by \u201cactivist\u201d and \u201crevisionist\u201d history and how historians can engage with their critics.
