Vaughan<\/span><\/span><span class=\"EOP SCXW199244208 BCX4\" data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">A two-piece, multimodal project incorporating visual art, oral histories and audio work, <\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"none\">Walk in the Water<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"none\"> is a work of environmental justice, exploring <\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">Montrealers<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u2019 relationship with the St. Lawrence River that runs along our southern shores, via stories and maps of 200 years of human interventions into the shoreline at Pointe-St-Charles. <\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"none\">Walk in the Water<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"none\"> incorporates: 1) a wall-sized, touch-sensitive textile map that plays back audio excerpts of interviews with River experts and locals and a <\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">hydrophonic<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\"> recording of the River itself, and showcases six moments of human change to the shoreline, and: 2) a \u2018displaced\u2019 hourlong audio walk that invites listeners to consider \u2013 from the location of their choice, necessarily \u2018displaced\u2019 from the actual, inaccessible shoreline \u2013 the history of the St. Lawrence along Pointe-St-Charles as emblematic of how many western urban Rivers have been treated through the arc of industrialization, de-industrialization, neglect and now, at last, reconsideration.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Once First Nations\u2019 seasonal hunting grounds, a site of early settler settlement and then the cradle of Canadian industrialization, the Point\u2019s shoreline had six major moments of shoreline extension over the past two centuries. The edgelands were infilled with industrial, construction, military and medical waste as well as \u2018garbage\u2019 \u2014 the city dump was once along its shores \u2013 contaminating the soil.
