The Concordia Oral History Research Lab (COHRL) has a number of technologies available for the use of its affiliates. Digital Video recorders (mini DV) are available for short-term loan for researchers conducting oral history interviews. These state-of-the-art cameras allow for real-time downloading to PC or MAC computers due to the Firewire technology they employ. We have up to ten digital video cameras available at any time.

Digital still cameras are also available to researchers doing oral history. We have Nikon and Canon models available for use. Each camera is supplied with a 512 megabyte memory card. We have up to five still cameras available at any given time. (See equipment.)
For those who prefer recording their oral history interviews in audio formats, COHRL has high-end EDIROL digital audio recorders available for loan. These tape-less recorders can save your interviews in either MP3 or WAV format and can record up to 12 hours of interviews (depending on the format the file is saved in and the size of the memory card.) We have up to five digital audio recorders available at any time.

There is currently no industry standard for recording and preserving oral history. As a result, COHRL will be equipped to handle various sorts of media with the end objective of creating a digital history archive. Among these media are: DVDs; mini DVs; VHS tapes; 8mm tapes; and audio cassette tapes.
At COHRL researchers can use our state-of-the-art computers for the downloading and burning of DVDs, and creation of clips for internet video streaming and Powerpoint presentations. Our preferred software is Adobe Elements and Adobe Premiere Pro, which are highly compatible and are user-friendly. COHRL regularly offers workshops on using these programs.

Additionally, other software, such as the website-building Dreamweaver, Adobe Photoshop, and Microsoft Office are available for use. COHRL is also equipped with flatbed scanners and DVD/mini DV decks which are used in the digitization of oral history interviews.
