Sonia Dhaliwal is currently a masters student in History under the supervision of Dr. Barbara Lorenzkowski. She has a masters degree in Information Studies from McGill and an undergraduate degree in History from the University of Waterloo. Her research interests are in cultural identity formation of second generation children who have immigrant parents, with a particular focus in the Canadian-South Asian community. She hopes to use her knowledge in history and archival skills to help document and preserve records of minorities in Canada in community archives.

Eleni Polychronakos is a PhD student in the Humanities Department at Concordia University. Her interdisciplinary research-creation project combines Oral History, Creative Writing and Literary Criticism. She holds a Masters in Journalism and a Masters in Literature. From 2011 to 2015, she was an editor with Room Magazine, Canada’s oldest feminist literary journal. As a freelance journalist, she has written for magazines in Canada and Japan, and produced hour-long radio shows for the F-Word, a feminist program on Co-op Radio Vancouver. Her fiction has been shortlisted in contests by the Malahat Review and Walrus Magazine and appears in various literary journals.

Amanda Whittaker:
PhD Student, Department of History, University of Toronto
“My Life is Nothing Special”: Life Stories and Kitchen Politics among Migrants in Montreal since 1945.
The purpose of my PhD project is to expose a unique form of cultural integration that came at the behest of food. In conjunction with oral history testimonies of ‘food voice’ interviewees, my thesis aims to determine the nature of Montreal’s culinary foodways in the post-1945 period. The project involves studying the development of family food practices and the evolving nature of kitchen politics through oral history interviews and cookbook analysis.
