Archiving for Oral Historians

Vendredi, février 19, 2016 -
12:00 to 14:00

Kristen Young and Patricia Di Palma

Veuillez noter que cet atelier sera donné en anglais, avec une période de questions bilingue.

Since its inauguration, the Centre for Oral History and Digital Storytelling has housed many interesting and important oral history archives. This short introduction to the principles and practices of archives and the archival practices at COHDS will help users to discover “hidden gems” and gain exposure to some basic tips for archiving oral history research.

This workshop will be a short introduction to the archival field as well as archiving in Canada. It will also include a breakdown of donation procedures and outline why it’s beneficial to donation your project materials to COHDS. Lastly, this workshop will highlight tips for project submission and ways to access the extensive COHDS archival collections.

Kristen Young and Patricia Di Palma are second year MISt students at McGill's School of Information Studies.

Kristen has a background in History and English Literature and interests in Archives and Academic Librarianship. Through her work at COHDS, Kristen hopes to spread knowledge of archival principles and make it easier for all members of the COHDS community to use and understand the organization of archives.

Also with a background in History, Patricia is committed to facilitating productive public access to archives. Though she aspires to work in the archives of a government agency, Patricia hopes her time at COHDS will help preserve social and community heritage while providing easy access to information.
