Entangled Violence and Forest Experiences of War in Colombia

Monday, December 9, 2019 - 12:00 to 14:00

In English

Talk by Daniel Ruiz-Serna

Postdoctoral Fellow, COHDS and Department of Anthropology, University of British Columbia. My research draws attention to the impact that war has in the relationships that indigenous and Afro-Colombian communities have with their environments and with the myriad non-human beings that forest and rivers harbour. For these peoples, violence is an experience that extends beyond the human. In this talk, I bring to the fore the kind of attunement we need to cultivate in order to pay attention to the suffering embodied by animals, spirits, and places.
