DESCRIPTION OF ORGANIZATION:

Founded in 2006, the Centre for Oral History and Digital Storytelling (COHDS) is an award-winning interdisciplinary research unit of Concordia University with more than 150 affiliated faculty members, students, artists, educators, partner organizations, and community members.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Associate Director (AD) is the primary staff member of COHDS and manages much of the day-to-day operation of the research unit and supports the strategic direction undertaken by the COHDS Co-Directors and Board of Administration. Among the core responsabilities are:

-Managing the space, equipment, and other staff members.

-Administering the budget and maintaining financial controls on COHDS operations.

-In collaboration with the Communications coordinator, managing communications with COHDS affiliates via the bilingual COHDS newsletter, Facebook page and website.

-Dealing with external demands on COHDS, meeting with visitors and with those interested in affiliating with COHDS.

-Creating and managing COHDS programme of events, workshops, round tables and journées d'études.

-Reporting to the Administrative Board, organizing its meetings, and serving as an ex-officio member, preparing the agendas and taking minutes.

-Preparing reports for the Office of Research, including COHDS annual reports and other documents.

-Occasionally, presenting at conferences or giving oral history/digital workshops or media interviews.

REQUIREMENTS:

-Demonstrates familiarity with and experience in University environment.

-Knowledge of oral history and digital storytelling research and creative practice.

-Experience in project management and collaborative research-creation.

-Strong administrative expertise.

-Fluently bilingual (French and English, written and spoken) and excellent communication and writing skills.

-Works well with people.

-Strong sense of initiative, organized, and able to oversee several files at the same time.

CONDITIONS:

24 hours / week

$22 / hour

One-year contract: January 1st, 2017 to January 1st, 2018 (subject to University calendar)

Please note: While this position begins in January, the applicant should be available in the two first weeks of December for paid training.
