Job Offer: Digital Media and Lab Technician


The Centre for Oral History and Digital Storytelling is currently looking to hire a bilingual Digital Media and Lab Technician for the Fall semester.


Computers & Lab equipment:
- Provide IT and postproduction support and training for staff, affiliates and postdocs;
- Coordinate audiovisual equipment reservations, repairs and maintenance;
- Provide training in using audiovisual equipment;
- Maintenance of lab computers and software (updates, troubleshooting, data management);
- Assess and give recommendations for technical implementation of affiliate and lab projects.

Network & web:
- Administer the local Network Area Server, manage user access and provide related training and support to staff and affiliates;
- Coordinate with server administrator to manage issues that arise on web server;
- Coordinate updates and provide support for COHDS website (Drupal).

- Coordinate audiovisual requirements for conferences, special events and performances;
- Provide IT support to workshop facilitators.

- Plan and implement digital preservation strategy alongside archivist;
- Provide technical guidance and support for the archival staff and volunteers.

- Prepare user-friendly documentation and develop workflows for oral history projects
- Plan and lead a program of technical trainings.


Part-time temporary contract with a possibility of renewal

Schedule: 1 day/week
Duration: September to December 2017


- Ability to effectively communicate in French and English
- Familiarity with computer systems, particularly in OSX environment
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere, Prelude, Audition, Photoshop)
- Experience with web CMS platforms (Wordpress, Drupal)
- Experience in audio-video production
- Experience providing audiovisual support for events
- Organizational skills and ability to work independently
- Strong communication and pedagogical skills

The Centre for Oral History and Digital Storytelling is a very multidisciplinary community of research and practice. This position allows the team member to be in direct contact with a wide array of both community and academic researchers, in a bilingual environment. Through our workshops and seminars, staff can also gain training in oral history, participatory research, and research-creation. This fall, the Digital Media and Lab Coordinator will have the opportunity to help our team coordinate over a dozen events, including the annual COHDS Film Festival.
