DESCRIPTION OF ORGANIZATION:

An official research unit of Concordia University, the Centre for Oral History and Digital Storytelling explores the connections between oral history, new media, and the arts, and opens up access to and analysis of the audiovisual oral history record. As a centre of production by way of a wide array of media, it shares its findings with diverse audiences, both within and beyond the academy. COHDS serves as a point of convergence for collaborative research, teaching and publishing among faculty and students at Concordia University, as well as community-based projects operating at the local, national and international levels. Community based researchers and artists are an integral part of our community of practice. Sharing authority is at the core of our research ethic.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The archives of COHDS consist of roughly 1400 oral history interviews. In order to make these available to researchers and community members, all interviews are currently being re-organized according to the RAD (Rules for Archival Description) standards.

Under the supervision of the Associate Director, the Archival Assistant will work closely with the Archivist to help process COHDS’ collection of oral history interviews. This may include such tasks as entering data, organizing donations, processing physical and digital materials, and assisting with the reorganization of our archives room. The Archival Assistant might also provide support to researchers and community members who want to access our archives.

REQUIREMENTS:

·      Canadian citizen or permanent resident paying Quebec tuition fees, and have applied for and is receiving Quebec student aid in 2016-2017, including the Summer 2016 semester

·      Organization and attention to detail essential

·      Bilingualism a strong asset

·      General knowledge of RAD an asset

·      General computer and web literacy a strong asset

CONDITIONS:

12,5 hours/week for 8 weeks

Flexibility to accommodate class schedule

Rate of pay: $13 / hour

June-July 2016. This position could be pursued in the Fall and Winter terms, if funding is available.
